Our Goal

Public budgets are the means in which government raise, allocate and spend public resources. In this sense, budgets are among the primary functions and policy instruments that governments use to convert political promises, 

Public budgets are the means in which government raise, allocate and spend public resources. In this sense, budgets are among the primary functions and policy instruments that governments use to convert political promises, policy commitments and strategic plans into public goods and services. As essential as they are, budgets are prone to misappropriation and mismanagement, thus, the process in which budgets are produced as well its contents must be open and aligned to community needs and preferences. Through budget research, analysis, dissemination of budget information and capacity development, we aim to strengthen the capacity of governments to formulate and present public budgets in a manner that is accessible, usable and understandable, strengthen capacity of community analyze and use budget information to inform their participation and strengthen partnerships and collaborations that support learning, unlearning and relearning of practices. 

Recent Projects and results

A PB pilot with farmers in
Elgeyo Marakwet County

Summary

Through this experiment, we collaborated with the Marakwet Highland Farmers Association to train 20 budget facilitators drawn from five wards in the highland of Marakwet West and Marakwet East sub-counties i.e., Kapyego, Lelan, Sengwer and Charang’any/Chebororwa.

Action Plan Co-Creation

Summary

We engaged 120 participants through the co-creation process and 75% of all government departments through a series of listening tours – community listening tours across the county sub-counties and listening involving governments officials.
